CzSO: The value of agricultural production fell by 7.8 pct to 176.9 billion CZK last year

An estimated value of agricultural production in the Czech Republic last year, according to updated data from the Czech Statistical Office (CzSO), fell by 7.8 percent year-on-year to 176.9 billion crowns. A value of plant production decreased by 16.8 percent compared to 2022, mainly due to the low price of  wheat, barley, and rapeseed harvest.

A number of Czech poultry breeders are at a loss, a purchase price of chickens is decreasing

A purchase price of Czech chickens is decreasing, it is below the European Union average. In addition, costs for breeders increase and they lose their competitiveness on the market. A number of meat poultry breeders are therefore at a loss and there is a risk of reduction in poultry meat production by 10 to 15 percent.

In a number of places in the Czech Republic, soil dryness may soon develop in a layer of up to 40 cm

Soil drought may develop in the coming days in a number of places in the Czech Republic, especially in the upper layer up to 40 centimeters, according to current information on the Intersucho project website. It threatens despite the fact, that the winter was rather above average in terms of precipitation in many places.

Wine Union: Due to declining sales and climate change, fewer vineyards will be planted

The decline in wine consumption, concerns about the introduction of a tax on still wine and climate change are leading winemakers in the Czech Republic to be cautious. They plant fewer vineyards and restore fewer. The Vinařská unie ČR (Wine Union), which brings together the 30 largest wine producers in the Czech Republic, found this out in a survey among its members.
