Czech Republic has examined almost 830 000animals for BSE; 20 were diseased

830 000 animals have been examined for a so called disease of mad cows (BSE) since the beginning of 2001 in the Czech Republic, 20 from them were diseased. Actual results of testing were delivered to the ČTK today by a spokesman of the State Veterinary Administration Josef Duben. A last case here appeared at the end of June in a region Semily.

Farmers have to sit to textbooks

Farmers and other entrepreneurs, who deal with chemical preparation for plant protection, will have to pass new examinations in front of a special commission till the end of year. The present certificate of passed training will not be in force from the 1st January. New examinations are ordered by a new law which determines special qualification for an operation of phytosanitary activity. The state wants to adjust the Czech legislative with the Union one. The exam will have to be repeated every five years. “I have passed similar exams several times in my life, now I will have to pass them again. The old ones will be good for nothing.”

Growing plants for energy purposes

A booklet has been written on a stimulus of the MZe and numerous questions of expert and laic public. It contains a description and present experience with growing of various kinds of plants potentially suitable for energy purposes use, including those which are in a list of endowed “energy herb”. The topic is actual just now when a significant rice in price of gas and electricity is prepared and bio-mass can become a suitable and at the same time renewable addition for buildings heating.

University opened first part of campus

Special teams from the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Medicine move in a new environment. Workers of the join-stock company IMOS Brno and Metrostav build a large complex of integrated laboratories of biomedicine technologies (ILBIT) in only year. It stays in Brno-Bohunice next to a faculty hospital and it is the first part of built campus o the Masaryk University. Laboratories cost about 712 million crown and according to an announcement of the rector Petr Fiala, still 17 millions were saved against the budget.
