Billion trees for the planet Earth - challenge for everybody, schoolchildren and adults

Each of us can join - by energy savings; by a choice of mass transport or a bicycle instead of a car; by a choice of Czech product and bio-foods; but also by just personal participation in UNO campaign called “Billion trees for the planet Earth”. Its aim is to plant out at least a billion trees in the whole world during one year.Management of LČR has left three technical directors Veselý, Krchov and Třeštík

All three technical directors, Vladimír Veselý, Vladimír Krchov and Václav Třeštík, resigned in the management of enterprise Lesy of the Czech REpublic (LČR) today.Tomáš Vyšohlíd, a spokesman of the enterprise said it to ČTK. He confirmed that their resignation is a reaction to a Thursday resignation of the general manager of LČR, František Koníšek. From today the enterprise is led, on the authority of the Minister of Agriculture Petr Gandalovič, by Jiří Holický who has been till this time a director of the Regional Inspectorate of LČR Karlovy Vary.

Other focuses of bird flu in South Korea and Pakistan

South Korea and Pakistan announced today an occurrence of other focuses of bird flu infection in breedings. The virus H5N1 transferable to humans appeared in south of South Korean metropolis Soul and in Pakistan city Islámábád. In South Koreas it is the sixth this year's case, while in Pakistan the third one in this week.

Botanical garden exhibits rare species of orchids

Hundreds of orchids in environment of their habitat can be seen from today in Prague Botanic Garden in Troja. In the greenhouse Fata Morgana visitors can see 100 natural species and other hundred of cross-breads of rare flowers. The exhibition will last to the 25th of February. According to organizers the second year of the exhibition is wider and high-quality than the last year's one which was visited by 15 000 people. “A large collection successfully gathered should attract also experts. Compared to the last year there is more botanical species from the wild nature; last year there were rather hybrids”, said a curator of the exposition to ČTK.
