Two thirds of world metropolises are endangered by rising sea level
About two thirds of the biggest world cities including New York and Tokio which lie in coast areas with a low elevation above sea-level are endangered by rising sea level and impacts of global warming. A team of international scientists report it in a study published in a prestigious magazine Environment and Urbanization today. An Agency AP informed that experts estimate that by the year 2080 one hundred people will have been flooded owing to rising sea level every year and they appeal to protective measures.
Indonesia is again horrified with bird flu
Indonesia confirmed other three deaths of bird flue today by which means number of Indonesian victims of this disease increased to 69. Today a forty-year old man from the town Surabaya succumbed to the infection. At the same time a presence of the virus H5N1 was confirmed also in bodies of fifteen-year old boy and twenty two-year old woman whose death with suspicion of bird flu had been announced already on Tuesday.
Veterinarians do found out faults neither in domestic nor foreign meat
On base of recent real and assumed problems with foods of animal origin veterinary inspectors carried out many aimed sample checks. As a spokesman of the State Veterinary Association CR (SVS) Josef Duben emphasized yesterday, inspectors don't find out any faults. At first according to its data logistic centers of trade chains were examined last week due to a risk of occurrence of listerias (bacteria Listeria monocytogenes). Inspectors sampled eleven so called risky products in total and all results were negative. Further they checked samples of meat traded on our market in frame of intracommunitary market. “In all cases laboratory examination were made on residues of extraneous substance and medicaments. Nor here any fault was found out. As well meat was always correctly marked. At the time of check it was discovered that a prevailing part of meat with an origin from other EU member country came from animals from Czech breedings”, Duben stated.
Lesy will announce new commissions in May
The state enterprise Lesy CR, one of the biggest firm in the country, wants to announce tenders for forestry works for several tens of milliard crowns at the latest in May. “We have to manage it if we want to sign definitive contracts with private firms in November”, Jiří Holicky, temporarily charged with management of the firm, confirmed to HN. The contracts should come in force from January 2008 for next three or five years.
