In South Bohemia 70 percent of cereals is harvested; yields are higher by fifth

Harvest on South-Bohemian fields slowly terminates. Farmers have harvested already 70 percent of sowed areas on this day. Harvest in the region České Budějovice progressed furthest; next week farmers could start celebrating harvest-home. Works finish also in the region Písek and Tábor. Almost all rape and perennial barley is under roof. Yields of cereals are meanwhile higher by fifth than last year. An average reaches 4,41 tons per hectare. CTK was told it by a directress of South-Bohemian Agrarian Chamber, Hana Hricová, today.

Meat production in the Czech Republic decreases; we lose self-sufficiency in pig meat

Meat production in the Czech Republic in the second quarter decreased. Compared to the same period last year meat production in total decreased by 1,5 percents. In the second quarter this year 156 026 tons of meat was produced. From it 54,4 percent was pig meat, 12,6 percent beef and veal meat, and 33 percents was poultry meat. In the second quarter 66,2 thousands of pieces of cattle was slaughtered which was less by 2,6 percents than year before in the same period. However, an average slaughter weight of cattle increased year-on-year by 2,5 percent. In connection to slaughters production of beef meat incl. veal meat decreased only by 0,2 percents.

SZIF provided 340 000 CZK of agricultural subsidies without authorization

The fund did not check sufficiently applications for European money in frame of the Horizontal Plan of Rural Development for period from May 2004 to the end of 2006. The Supreme Control Office (NKÚ) announced it today. It is dealt, first of all, with insufficient realization of administrative checks of applications which led to providing subsidies even in cases when not all conditions for their providing were verified. Generally, the Czech system of allotment of subsidies according to the EU Common Agricultural Policy is fully functional and in principle it fulfills requirements set by European and Czech law, NKÚ reported.

Forests in Brdy are damaged by timber harvesting

Half-meter grooves in forest land and piles of rubbish including containers of motor oils. This is a picture of forest on its edge in a military area Brdy about one year after timber harvesting. It was confirmed by many visitors of opened parts of the military area. For the municipality Strašice the mess after forest workers was even one of reasons to join municipalities from Brdy surroundings. A way of timber harvesting will be examined by the Czech Inspection of Environment (ČIŽP).
