European legislative for renewable resources forms gradually

A preliminary version of a European Commission's proposal, aim of which is to increase coverage of energy consumption from renewable resources contains, rules for creation of national objectives, a measure according to which businessmen would have to use compulsorily certificates for trading with renewable resources but also criteria for sustainability of bio-fuels production.

5630,6 tons of hops were harvested in the Czech Republic in 2007

The Central Institute for Supervising end Testing in Agriculture, a place of work in Žatec (ÚKZÚZ) provided final data to hop harvest in 2007. According to ÚKZÚZ in total 5630,6 t of hops were produced in the CR in 2007 which corresponds with 1,04 t/ha. In Žatec hop area 3891,8 t was produced in total which is a yield 0,97 t/ha, in Úštěk area 713,2 t in total, i.e. 1,05 t/ha, and in Tršice hop area 1025,6 t in total, i.e. 1,46 t/ha. In comparison with very bad year 2006 it is dealt with a slight increase but in comparison with the year 2005 it is a fall in production by 28,1 %, and compared to 2004 it is dealt with a fall by 10,8 %.

Chambers have strengthened

Last this year's negotiations of a board and a supervisory board of the Agrarian Chamber CR in Hradec Králové which took place last Thursday on the 6th of December 2007 made a significant point after just terminating year 2007. A management of the Agrarian Chamber CR confirmed important news that the Food Chamber had entered the Agrarian Chamber. A speech of the president Miroslav Toman and an explanation, why the Food Chamber becomes a member of AKČR was accepted very positively. “Where our interest is common, there we will support and proceed uniformly. In areas where situation is different we will solve a given problems separately. However, above all we want to communicate and act”, Toman said in his presentation.

France forbade temporarily using of GM corn

In France commercial use of genetically modified corn was formally stopped from the beginning of February 2008 and it was ordered a completion of study for biological safety of this commodity. It is dealt with GMO corn MON 810 of a company Monsanto Corp whose commercial growing is now permitted in frame of the EU. A future of GMO in France, which is the top world cereals producer, is a subject of heated discussions in the long term. An aversion of France to use GM plants sharply contrasts with an approach of Canada and the USA which are much more obliging to gene technology products.
