ČSÚ: Rice and apples rose in price this week; bread and pastry cheapened
Above all rice, apples and chicken meat rose in price on shelves of domestic groceries this week. On the contrary, bread, pastry, tomatoes and paprika cheapened. It results from results of regular investigation of consumer’s prices of selected foodstuffs which were published by the Czech Statistic Office (ČSÚ) today. A kilogram of hulled rice of first quality rose in price in comparison with the last week at average by 4,3 percent, so by 1,12 crowns to 27,34 CZK/kg. Tradesmen sold consumption apples at average for 30,77 CZK/kg, so by 1,27 CZK more expensive in comparison with the foregoing week. A price of one kilogram of chicken meat increased by 1,13 crowns to 62,12 CZK/kg.
Not bakers but shops are blame for more expensive bread
Rubber rolls and bread without taste which, however, cost more and more money. It is often experience not only in inland supermarkets but in common shops. Where is the problem? Backers are clear – their prices are pushed down by tradesmen, mainly by big chains, in such way that bakeries try to cheapen production as much as possible. Bakers do not want to hear about that they produce at the expense of quality, however, they admit that they bake different bread and rolls than to which the Czech were used in the past. “Classical Czech bread disappears in fact”, a chief of the Association of millers and bakers Jaroslav Chochole says. According to a chief of the Czech Bakers’ and Confectioners’ Association Stanislav Musil production of traditional bread costs more which consumers are not able to accept and they insist on the condition of “as lowest price as possible”.
