Amendment of act on wastes – for better sorting and recycling

“An amendment of act on wastes will significantly enable citizens to sort waste and also will economically advantage recycling compared to burning and above all waste disposal”, the Minister of Environment Martin Bursík summarizes a main contribution of the big amendment of act on wastes which he introduced at a press conference today.

What is and will be the situation about marking of beef meat?

Consumers of butchery welcomed already more than five years ago that it had been decided on marking of beef meat regarding sex and age of slaughter animal. As a spokesman of the State Veterinary Administration CR (SVS) Josef Duben reminded, it was done especially in reference to the fact that customers were interested in purchase of “young” meat which is easily treatable in kitchen.

Resort priorities of Czech presidency were negotiated at the highest Brussels level

A reform of the Common Agricultural Policy and a future form of direct payments, a development policy, and redefinition of so called less favourable areas, and last but not least a revision of policy of food and agricultural products quality – such are the general priorities of agricultural resort for Czech presidency in the first half-year of 2009. The priorities were presented to the commissioner Mariann Fisher-Boel by the Minister of Agriculture Petr Gandalovič today in Brussels. The minister negotiated also with other crucial persons of Brussels structures and he started a set of meeting which will help the Czech Republic to manage successfully and effectively the presidential role.

Committee of EP did not support reduction of subsidies to big producers

The Agricultural Committee of European Parliament dealt with a revision of the Common Agricultural Policy at its yesterday’s meeting. Representatives refused a proposal of the Commission to reduce subsidies for large agricultural cooperatives. According to them, in new measures attention has to be drawn first of all to disadvantaged regions and “delicate sectors” as e.g. cattle breeding.
