Growers planted 5345 hectares with hop; by 44 hectares less

Žatec (region Louny), on the 14th of May (ČTK) - Inland hop-growers planted 5345 hectares with hop; year-on-year by 44 hectares less. A bearing variety stays SAAZ (Žatecký poloraný červeňák, SAAZ Hop) which covers 88,8 percent of area. Positive is a fact that acreages of newly planted hop has increased. This trend should continue also in the future, a secretary of the Hop Growers Union CR Zdeněk Rosa said to ČTK. According to him a variety Premiant prevails, however, also areas of a variety Sládek have enlarged.

MZe puts forward a report on flood-protection measures

The Ministry of Agriculture is obliged to inform on flood-protection measures building procedure regularly every year. The report put forward this year summarizes a procedure till the year 2007. Big steps have been made in flood protection but the report speaks also about a further continuation.

Greenhouse emissions will have been able to be reduced to as much as a half by 2020

The present emissions of greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide, monoxid nitrogen and methane) can be reduced to as much as a half by the year 2020 with acceptable investment costs in the Czech Republic. It results from a study worked out for the Ministry of Environment by a company Enviros. “We are going to put forward a new CR climatic policy to the government by this year's autumn which will contain concrete proposals of reduction measures as well as adaptation tools to impacts of climatic changes”, Martin Bursík, the Minister of Environment says.
