Lesy ČR discriminate us, firms argue (Lidové noviny)

According to an association of forest entrepreneurs the state enterprise forfeited quarter billion crowns in liquidation of consequences of the windstorm Emma. Quite in state forest is not on the order of the day. The Czech Entrepreneurs in Forest Management Association (ČAPLH) does not like a system in which the state enterprise Lesy České Republiky does away with the calamity after February windstorm Emma. According to ČAPLH the state enterprise should have decided to “press” on its partners and to make them to process the calamity in frame of current contracts. According to them, in case of a calamity, Lesy can increase a planned annual volume of so called occasional harvesting (so just trees which fell themselves after the calamity) by as much as 20 percents of the total annual harvesting.

Frequency of salmonella in pigs in EU

An EFSA report on frequency of salmonella in slaughtered pigs in EU-25 in 2006 – 2007. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) published a salmonella frequency survey in slaughtered pigs in the EU in 2006 – 2007. It was estimated that salmonella occurs in every tenth pig (10,3) slaughtered for human consumption. In particular EU member states the frequency of salmonella moved in an interval from 0 to 29 %. From the found varieties of salmonellas two had the highest frequency: S. Typhimurium (4,7 %) and S. Derby (2,1 %).

Intelligent and active packages

It can be expected that in the near future people will still more and more often encounter a new generation of package materials. It is dealt with intelligent and active packages which are able to actively influence characters of preserved objects and to communicate with a consumer. The present number one among package materials is plastics. However, their position is not adamant. Conventional plastics produced the most often from rock-oil starts to have a competition in bio-plastics. These materials are attractive at present above all thanks to its natural biological decomposability.

Corn for CBOT breaks records

The most active June futures contract for corn continued in breaking records in frame of yesterday’s business seance on the exchange Chicago Board of Trade. The reason was a statement of American Ministry of Agriculture according to which it is probable that thanks to recent excessive rains and several flooded fields this year’s production of corn in the United States will fall behind compared to May estimations by 3,2 %. The total volume of production should make 11 735 billion bushels while May estimations spoken about 12 125 billions.
