Project ENCA of program Transition Facility has been finished

A project with name Strengthening of enforceability of food law by the State Agricultural and Food Inspection (SZPI) was finished during June 2008. The project contained two separate parts. The first one dealt with strengthening of a technical capacity of SZPI by means of supply of equipment for analysis of pesticide residues. Its use will enable SZPI to enlarge an extent of analyzed pesticides in foods of plant origin. The equipment itself (a liquid chromatograph with specific spectrometer – LC/MS/MS-triplequad) was installed and put into operation in July 2007.

Sustainable production better than bio

An American producer of frozen creams Ben & Jerry (the group Unilever) and a Netherlandish producer of premium semi-hard cheeses and whey – Cono Kaasmakers in the area Boomster – have created common conception “Caring Dairy”, i.e. a conception of careful sustainable production of milk. They consider it as more significant activity than production of bio-milk. The project should concern c. 280mil. kg of milk which would mean the biggest projects sui generis in Europe and probably also in the world. The conception is based on a philosophy of Mr. Cohen and Mr. Greenfield – founders of Ben & Jerry who in 80’s built an entrepreneurial codex based on a balance of entrepreneurial profit, quality of products, protection of environment, and social responsibility.

China the biggest pig meat producer

Also this year the biggest producers of pig meat will be China, the European Union and the United States of America. LPD – China has firmly settled at the head of scale of top producers of pig meat. According to the American Ministry of Agriculture’s prognosis also this year it should stay the world number one with production of 44,7 mil. tons. The second place, despite other decrease in production by 0,4 % to 22,5 mil. tons belongs to the EU. After that with a big gap the United Stated follow (10,68 mil.t) even if there were a year-on-year increase in production by 7,2 %. Experts in Brazil expect increase by 4 % to 3,11 mil. tons.

We found out Achilles’ heel of anabaenas, experts argue

Tens of tons of lime were distributed by planes on shores of a dam in Brno and anabaenas still spread. “Laws of nature can not be cheated”, an expert for anabaenas Blahoslav Maršálek says. When we build a house, you cannot to move in a day after you dig up foundations. When it was limed in spring, it was talked about that the lime should help to destroy feed for anabaenas and thereby to kill them. You are now saying that liming has no effect on their spreading. How it is in fact? With feed it is true, however, it is only an indirect effect. We never promised that lime would prevent from growth of anabaenas immediately. Liming should prepare the dam for emptying and for other steps. If we want to reach permanent results, we have to proceed slowly and to support natural processes.
