Martin Bursík: Barack Obama´s victory is big chance for world environment

The Vice-premier and the Minister of Environment Martin Bursík designated the election of Barack Obama the 44th President of the United States of America as a big chance for world environment. “I received the news about Barack Obama´s victory with big pleasure. It is beyond doubt that American president is one of the most significant world statesman. Barack Obama´s program gives a big chance not only to American citizens but also to the whole world. I welcome the USA on board among countries which together with the European Union seek for basic measures for conservation of climate on the Earth”, Martin Bursík says.

Operational program Environment gives opportunities to non-profit organizations

The State Fund of Environment organizes a round of workshops on possibilities of spending subsidies from the Operational program Environment for non-governmental organizations. They will be able to use a part from the total almost 5 billion Euros which are allocated in the program in 2007 – 2013. The second from the round of seminars will take place in Prague. Civil associations, generally beneficial organizations or church organizations can use subsidies from the operational program for example for warming of building, a conversion of heating systems to bio-mass, or an installment of solar chains for production of electric energy.

Are organic foods more nutritive than foods produced conventionally?

A new Danish research has found out that there is no evidence for support of an argument that organic foods are more nutritive than foods produced in conventional way. The new research published in the last issue of journal of the Society of Chemical Industry “Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture” has found out that there is no evidence for support of an argument that organic foods are more nutritive than foods produced with the aid of pesticides and other chemicals. This research made by Dr. Susanne Bügel and her colleagues from the Department of Human Nutrition at the University in Copenhagen shows that there is no clear evidence which would support a general opinion that organic foods are better for us.

The Czech Republic will not have enough time to build promised sewerage plants

The Czech Republic will not manage cleaning of sewerage waters by the end of year 2010 to which it committed on joining the European Union. A quarter of water-management projects in the country including Prague will not be built in time. A chairman of directorship of the Water Supply and Sewerage Association of the Czech Republic (SOVAK) František Barák said it yesterday. 47 of 530 agglomerations with more than two thousand inhabitants still have not territorial decision, so, realization of projects can not be managed in time, he emphasized. He sees the main reasons in a lack of money and developers as well as a shortening time for the own build-up.
