EU exceeds limits of air pollution owing to increase in road transportation
Despite a significant reduction of emission in recent years it is expected that only 11 EU member states (including the Czech Republic) will have not exceeded their emission limits by 2010 for all four substances substantially polluting air – carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxide, ammonia and non-methane volatile organic adducts – as the National Emission Ceilings Directive (NECD) imposes. The most difficult is to keep the emission ceiling of nitrogen oxide – it is caused partially in that demand for road transportation grows faster that it was expected.
