Grain yields in Europe 2009

Winter barley in Denmark showed above-average yields this year against 2008 when the country was one of several ones afflicted by drought, which influenced not only yields but also grain quality. Yields in other countries of Europe are variable. In Finland, the yields of wheat and barley were higher than was the assumption. Also oat yields were higher that the supposed 1,19 million tons, but not in the highest quality. In France, wheat was harvested in a heartwarming quality with 14 % protein content. The attention was concentrated especially on corn which was exposed to a hot stress during vegetation.

Cocoa on ICE Futures very strengthened

An intensive increase in price at the highest level since July 2008 was recorded in frame of yesterday´s trade séance on the change ICE Futures U.S. in the most active December futures contract for cocoa. The cause were speculations according to which a striking decrease in cocoa production in the state Ivory Coast will happen in this year´s season thereby the continuation of global deficit of production of the mentioned commodity will lengthen already in fourth sequential year.

Farmers started to kill herds. Owing to milk price

A fifth of farmers producing milk has already had to decrease a number of animals in herds owing to low buy-out prices; about ten percents of them has already completely finished their production. The Agrarian Chamber asserts it on base of inquiry which it realized among more then 1600 producers who will fulfill 55 percents of the total quota of milk produced in the Czech Republic. “The decrease in numbers of cows is caused partly by killing and partly by sale of animals mostly abroad. According to our information, the number of dairy cows has already decreased by six percents. As soon as the data reach ten percents the situation will be very bad”, Jan Veleba, the president of Agrarian Chamber warns.

Activity of agrarian chambers increases

It is hardly possible to squeeze all sent articles and reports about activities of district and regional agrarian chambers on one page of the Agrarian Chamber of the CR in Zemědělec. And we do not even speak about partial harvest celebrations organized by local agrarian chambers which were altogether successful and much-frequented. For all harvest celebrations, we will stop shortly at least at one. The Agrarian Chamber in Hradec Králové announced even a winner of competition for the best regional foods at a recent harvest-home as every year, so it can be said that the Food firm of the year in the district Hradec Králové is again Pekárna Lično from the region Rychnov.
