European cheeses with protected indication

Protected Designations of Origin (PDO) and Protected Geographical Indications (PGI) have a significant marketing and trade importance. A Registry of Protected Indications on base of the regulation 510/2006/ES and the implementing regulation 1898/2006/ES includes hundreds of products. As concerns cheeses, of the total sum 135 PDO, France has 41, Italy 35 and Greece and Spain each 20, and of the total 15 PGI, France has also the most – 4 indications. The CR (and Slovakia) waits meanwhile for execution of 3 applications for PGI.

Bio-foods are healthier than produced classically

Number of bio-farms in the CR grows every year. Bio-foods are nutritionally more valuable and contain less undesirable substances than foods produced from raw materials produced by conventional agriculture. It arises from results of a research projects QLIF on which 31 European research centers, companies and universities worked in 2004 – 2009. The results were presented by top experts for ecological agriculture on November 25 in Prague.

Rice price has grown

Rice price aimed up during yesterday´s trading on Chicago Board of Trade, wheeas January contract strengthened by 32 cents (2 percents) to 15,98 dollars. Rice brought through an important resistance and climbed on several-month maximum. The price was supported technical factors and speculations concerning a higher demand for American rice. Philippines are going to buy 510 000 tons of rice presently and Iraq 120 000 tons.

Copenhagen: “Climategat” divides scientists

Scientists vie in presenting evidences of disastrous impacts of global warming and try to provoke politicians, who meet now at a climatic conference of UNO in Copenhagen, to come to an agreement on decisive procedure. Their skeptical colleagues consider similar statements as unsubstantiated. Recent researches show that scientific consensus in frame of the Intergovernmental Panel of UNO on Climatic Change (IPCC) is maybe too much optimistic.
