New rules for use of European Union logo for organic production

The European Commission published its Regulation No. 271/2010 on 31.3.2010 which sets implementing rules governing a logo of the European Union for organic production. Among main changes there is especially a change of a graphical form of EU logo for organic production and conditions for its use.

Fruit-growers bankrupt owing to low buy-out prices

Fruit-growers in South Moravia relish last year´s season. Weather favoured them and the harvest was successful. However, it´s good for nothing because buy-out prices of fruit collapsed and the fruit-growers´ profit, too. Josef Viktorin, a chairman of the Pomological Union of Moravia and Silesia confirms it. “In 2007 and 2008 we fought with sale crisis. There was not big interest in Czech fruit. And last year when the situation improved, buy-out prices decreased”, Viktorin described the uneasy situation.

CSO: Prices of potatoes and paprika significantly raised in recent weeks

In last three weeks, the most significant raise in prices was recorded in potatoes and paprika, by more than 11 percents. Also wheat flour was more expensive. Vice versa, customers paid less for apples, white wheat bread and pastry, and bananas. It results from data published by the Czech Statistic Office (SCO) today. To the 6th of April, businessmen sold potatoes for 12.52 crowns for kilogram at average, so by 1.39 crowns more than three weeks ago. Paprikas raised in price by almost nine crowns to average 89.12 CZK for kilogram in the same period. One kilogram of wheat smooth flour was more expensive by 68 hellers; people paid for it at average 8.85 CZK.

Different regimes of milk sale from automats have to be differentiated

Recently, the Ministry of Agriculture has recorded information that development of milk sale by means of milk automatic machines had shown certain difficulties for farmers in its operating. From the farmers´ side, a legislative governing this area is replaced which leads to problems with application of this legislative in the practice. Milk sale by the help of milk automats can be operated essentially according to two legal enactment which have to be differentiated.
