Minister of Agriculture visited China

The Minister Jakub Šebesta participated in opening of an international food-industry fair SIAL CHINA in Chinese Sanghai which takes place from the 19th to 21st of May. SIAL China is an international fair-trade of beverages and foods with an associated fair-trade Packtech & Foodtech. This fair belongs to the most important food-industry fairs in Asia. This year, the 10th year takes place and more than 1000 exhibitors from 50 countries take part in.

CSO: Number of pigs and cattle decreases, number of sheep increases in South-Bohemian region

Numbers of the main farm animals have decreased significantly in recent years in South-Bohemian region. The fall touched pig, cattle and poultry breeding. Numbers of porkers decreased by more than two fifth in last ten years, vice versa, the number of sheep almost doubled. It results from the actual list of farm animals of the Czech Statistic Office. The decrease in main kinds of animals concerns the entire republic. The number of porkers in South-Bohemian region decreased year-on-yearly by five percents, 225 400 pieces were registered to this year´s 1st of April. The number of cattle decreased year-on-yearly by 0,5 percents, it fell by tenth to less than 210 000 pieces over ten years.

Chamber of Deputies voted down Senate and enforced gardener law

Gardeners maybe got a chance today again that their favourite hobby will be governed by a special law. The Chamber of Deputies voted down a Senate veto today and enforced a gardener law. For example the draft governs a foundation of gardener colonies, and rules of succession of garden leases. However, the law has not won yet. Now it has to be signed by the President and if he vetoes it, the Chamber of Deputies would not have managed to vote it down till the elections.

Swine fever is still monitored

A favourable infection situation in occurrence of classical swine fever in the CR and surrounding states, and a termination of oral vaccination of wild pigs in Slovakia led to disappearance of antidotes against this infection in a wild pig population. This disease in domestic pigs has been monitored on base of occurrence of antidotes in wild pigs till this time because there was a higher risk of importation of the infection in breeding in near areas.
