Sellers will not mark meat and eggs owing to dioxins

Chain stores refused an appeal of the Agrarian and Food Chamber to introduce an extraordinary marking of meat and eggs in domestic shops owing to findings of carcinogenic dioxins in Germany. Sellers assert that before marking for example with a label “Without dioxins”, every food product would have to be tested in a laboratory which would be complicated and expensive. According to sellers, the health unobjectionability of meat and eggs should be guaranteed by importers of these foods.

Cool down but not water!

So that fresh poultry meat could be well distributed without endangering of health unobjectionability, and would be imperishable, it is cooled down. European legislative determines three permitted cooling methods: by air, by air with spraying, and in a water bath. However, this third way entails also some risks of which the State Veterinary Administration of the CR has already warned for several times.

Dairy farms can again supply milk

Breeders of dairy cattle from Saxony, affected by a dioxin scandal, could take breath. They can again supply milk in dairy works without limitations. According to an expert´s opinion of the municipal ministry of agriculture, it has been excluded in all till this time closed farms that the dioxin content in feeding mixtures would exceed a permitted limit. Saxony press agency Landvolk informed on it.

Biggest world pastries producer switches to cage-less eggs

A company Barilla, the biggest world pastries producer has announced that in 2011, 45 percents of purchased eggs will originate from free, cage-less farms. It is dealt with the first producer of pastries in the USA which joined a nationwide movement for termination of use of eggs from laying hens kept in cages. Other and other firms all over the United States join the movement for cage-less eggs. Among the producers there are companies Kraft, Sara Lee, Otis Spunkmeyer, Hellmann's.
