According to farmers, garlic with small heads grew in South Moravia

The interest in Czech garlic increases among Czech consumers, however, this years weather was not favourable to quality of garlic crop in south Moravia. Several famers from the region said to ČTK. They complain identically that garlic grew with small heads. In recent year, mainly garlic from Chinese import has been profusely sold in the Czech Republic. Only last year, the interest of Czech consumers in Czech garlic, which is more expensive but of better quality, started to return. And farmers similarly go to meet the consumer interest gradually. According to statistics, garlic was grown on the area of 13 hectares in south Moravia this year which is by 13.1 percents more than last year.

Hottest summer since 1995 endanger corn and soya harvest in USA

States Iowa and Illinois experience the hottest summer since 1955. Sweltering heats negatively influence corn and soya crop. The expected profitability of both the mentioned agricultural commodities decreases. Both states belong to ones of the biggest growers of these crops in the country. A survey made by an agency Bloomberg revealed that all of 25 addressed participants expect in case of corn a decrease in crop estimation from the side of authorities. 21 participants expect a decrease of estimation also in the case of soya. Some parts of central-west of the USA experienced temperatures over 32 centigrade for more than 35 days.

Young mushrooms do not do well in hot weather, they suffer from insect

Current sweltering heats are not favourable for regenerating mycelium. A better mushroom crop can be expected with coming of more rainy and colder weather. “Perhaps, this period will not please mushroom picker much. After an excellent wave in last weeks mycelium needed to regenerate which will be hardly possible in this weather. It requires mainly humidity”, a secretary of the Czech Mycological Association Aleš Vít told and added that at present a little bit better situation for mushroom-pickers will be mainly in Moravia.

Net profit of group LESS decreased by 156 mil to three mil. CZK in half a year

A net profit of a holding LESS, which is in the branch of forestry and wood-processing industry a leader on Czech markets, decreased year-on-yearly by 156 mil. CZK to three million in this year´s first half a year. However, the holding showed a record turnover almost by 4.3 milliard CZK which is year-on-yearly by 1.4 mld. CZK more. An assistant director Petr Huml states it to ČTK in a press release today. The significant decrease in net profit is according to the holding influenced by a way how Lesy ČR determines buy-out prices of wood this year. The Czech Statistic Office issues an index according to which wood prices should be determined charged subsequently by Lesy ČR to contractual partners.
