Cocoa price rises again; crops is endangered by Saharan win

After a record reduction at the end of last year cocoa prices started on a large scale because they are afraid of a lack of it owing to dry wind in Africa this year. A daily Financial Times informed that cocoa rose in price by eight percents on Tuesday. Since the beginning of this week, prices of the commodity have strengthened by 15 percents. Cocoa was traded for the highest prices since November on London commodity exchange today; an average daily cocoa price was 2204.64 dollars (44 382 CZK) for a tonne on Tuesday. Investors start to be afraid that there will be lack of cocoa this year owing to bad weather in West Africa.

Campaign for better conditions in farm animal transportation culminates in Brussels

An online petition whose aim is to secure better conditions in transportation of farm animals in Europe can boast with more than one million signatures. According to rules newly introduced by Lisbon Treaty. The European Union has to deal with an initiative which is supported by so big group of EU citizens. Rules for farm animal transportation hold within the EU already since the end of 1970´s and it was amended in 2005. Despite the fact all are not satisfied with them. The proof is more than one million signatures which were successfully collected by an initiator of the whole campaign for “welfare” of transported farm animals, a Danish Euro-representative Dan Jorgensen.

Veterinarian check poultry from Germany

The State Veterinary Administration (SVA) checks deliveries of poultry meat from Germany for presence of antibiotic residues. A stimulus for start of the checks was information published by German ecological organization BUND. According to ecologists, some chicken meat sold in German supermarkets contains dangerous bacteria resistant to antibiotics which can invoke serious health problems in people with disturbed immunity and even to endanger their life.

Negotiation about new law on NP Šumava terminates; draft law aims at legislative process

Representatives of regions, chief magistrates, scientific community, chairmen of parliamentary Committees for Environment, a representative of an ecological association Zachraňme Šumavu (Let´s save Šumava), ŠumavaPro and the Council of National Park Šumava met for the last time with the minister Tomáš Chalupa at a round table to discuss a draft law on National Park Šumava of the Ministry of Environment. The draft law will wander to a legislative process till the end of this month. “In my opinion, all are aware of necessity of concessions and a compromise; all are wise enough to know that all can be achieved never.
