Wine sausage – traditional Christmas food celebrating solstice

In many Czech households wine sausage coiled up into a spiral, after frying reminding the Sun, is one of main foods on the Christmas table. Many archives talk that it got in the table as a symbol of solstice. In Czech cookery books the wine sausage in connection with Christmas appeared in the 19th century.

Amazonian primeval forest produced so many methane as all oceans together

Amazonian primeval forest is nicknamed a green lungs of the planet. However, besides oxygen it produces also methane. As researchers from the Open University found out now, it emits so much methane into the atmosphere that a replacement of lungs to a part of an opposite part of body would be closer to the reality.

State divided four hundred millions, quarter was given to Agrofert

The Czech Republic divided 400 million crowns of national subsidies to food enterprises, of it more than a quarter to firm from a holding Agrofert. So, the holding whose owner was a former Minister of Finances and the present premier Andrej Babiš (ANO) leads the list of subsidy recipients.

Bohemia Sekt sold much sparkling and still wines in 11 months

A group of Bohemia Sekt sold much sparkling wines, effervescing beverages and still wines than in the same period last year. However, the decisive will be December when a third of annual production of sparkling wines will be sold. The group expects a year-on-year growth in units of per cents over the whole year. A director Ondřej Beránek told it to ČTK today.
