Sugar beet crop increased in region Hradec Králové, Meziříčí has record

A harvest of sugar beet increased by six per cents to 769 000 tonnes in the region Hradec Králové and was the highest in the last three years. The only sugar refinery in the region in České Meziříčí near Rychnov reached a record production 140 000 tonnes of sugar last year.

German producer of chemicals BASF negotiates with a pharmaceutical firm Bayer about a purchase of its division of vegetable seeds. A value of the transaction could be roughly about 1.5 milliard Euros (38.1 milliard CZK), including a debt. The agency Reuters informed about it with reference to informed sources.

Farmers are worried; frosts maybe damaged growths

Frosts about 20 centigrades below zero without snow coverage on soil are not good for winter crops like wheat, barley and oil seed rape. The Agricultural Union of the CR stated it today. According to the Union, climatic changes will affect the agriculture more and more.
