Torrential rain caused millions in damages

For the whole Tuesday were people dealing with consequences of torrential rain, which affected the most regions of West and South Bohemia, Highlands and also some parts in East Bohemia. In some regions the heavy rainstorm lasted till late night and was in some places followed also by hailstorm. In Highlands region more than 100 professional and voluntary fire brigades intervened in 38 events, related to these weather conditions. The whole Tuesday were also the people by local floods affected regions clearing away the deposits of mud. „According to computer based estimations, there could had been a rainfall of 100 to 120 mm between the Pelhřimov and Humpolec towns. It would qualify as an extreme,“ stated the meteorologist and direct viewer Pavel Mezera.

MŽP (Ministry of environment): EU could provide for the ecology in the Czech Republic 193 billions CZK in years 2007-13

Roughly 197 billions CZK could be provided based on estimates for years 2007 to 2013, from the European Cohesion Fund, for the environment of the Czech Republic. It is sequent upon the data provided by Ministry of environment, which were mentioned at todays seminar in connection with exhibition Water supplies and sanitation. The Czech Republic relies on assistance from the European funds, in respect of fulfilment the EU specifications for activated sludge processes, planned till the year 2010. In the Framework for the water management, is now stated that the construction of sanitation and sewage disposal plants is the priority, from the point of financing, stated the president of the Association for the water supplies and sanitation, Ota Melcher. For the fulfilment of EU requirements it is needed according to estimate approx. 75 billions of CZK.

Is grain burning such a sin?

The session organised by the Chamber of Agriculture was related to the surplus of grain and its consequential burning in power stations. The Chamber reacted to our article published on April 23, which mentioned a possibility of 1/4 of the energy provided by the Temelín power station, could be substituted by grain. This article evoked strong reactions among the farmers. The Chamber of Agriculture announced, it would rather let the grain go bad, than to allow it to be burned. The Chamber is agitated by the proposed plans for disposing of the surplus grain by burning. We do not even want to hear about it, maximum we could do is to allow the production of grain alcohol, which will be intermixed with petrol. To that order is the Czech Republic committed by the Commission of the European Union and its directions.

Chief officer of Madeta wants to offer a share in his company also to farmers

The biggest domestic dairy Madeta is willing to offer an asset share also to farmers from the Co-operative farm Jih, with which it is in an acrid dispute. “We are at the present negotiating with various entities and the share will be offered also to Jih,” said to Hospodařské noviny (Business periodical) the Chief officer of Madeta, Milan Teplý. The chairman of Co-operative farm Jih, Karel Bednář informed the same periodical, that he has not received mentioned offer yet. The Co-operative farm Jih is meanwhile trying the State as more than 36 % of Madeta shares were sold to Moravia Lakto company, which allowed Mr. Teplý to take complete control over the dairy, although Ministry of Agriculture promised at first to sell the company to farmers.
