Prague solves the most of environmental problems

Small towns – small problems, big cities – big problems. Regarding the environment, it is more or less true about Czech as well as world cities as Libor Ambrozek, the minister of environment, evaluates the current environmental challanges. Prague has to face the biggest environmental problems, reported the minister at the occassion of the forthcoming World Environment Day.

32 regional municipalities compete for the title of Village of the Year

Altogether 32 municipalities in Olomouc region have enrolled in this year´s competition Village of the Year, announced by the Association for Rural Recovery, Union of Towns and Municipalities of the Czech Republic and the Ministry for Local Development. In mid-June a special committee is to start to visit them and evaluate them. The mayor of the award winning village in 2003, Libor Vykopal from Ústí na Přerovsku, is going to be the head of the committee.

Climate changes will bring femine to poor countries

Climate changes will reduce yields in agricultural commodities. Consequently, more people will be likely to suffer from malnutrition or even femine. Due to the changes, animal and plant diseases threaten to increase, says the report of the UN Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO). The United Nations together with the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) have developed a system of Agro-ecological Zones (AEZ), a database keeping records of soil and climate in the whole world. The system is suitable for monitoring the impacts of climate changes in individual regions and geographical zones, agricultural land quality and expectation of yields.

Sequal of Polluter´s guide finally released

The Ministry of Environment of the Czech Republic has released a handbook called „Guide for reporting to the integrated registry of pollution, 2nd volume,“ directed at those who are bound to report their emmissions and transfers of pollution substances to the integrated registry of environmental pollution. It has been reported today by Jakub Kašpar, the director of the Department for External Relations at the Ministry of Environment.
