Cattle breeders will have to invest in sanitation of cattle

Czech breeders will have to invest in next years several hundreds of millions crowns in a sanitation of these herds which are infested with so called Infectious Bovine Rhinotracheitis (IBR). The nationwide action focused on this disease will start this year and in following years it will cost about 1,5 milliard crowns. The journalists were told it by Jiří Suchopár from the Chamber of Veterinary Surgeons of CR. The disease is not transmissible to people and if it does not have an acute course, it does not have any influence on milk and meat edibility.

Importance of bio-fuels still grows

Mariann Fisher-Boel, a commissioner for agriculture and rural development, wants to introduce and discuss a proposal of a reform of the sector wine and apparently also of fruit and vegetable this year. She indicated the support of bio-fuels development as her priority. She reported it at Berlin fair Grüne Woche which she considered as the main event of European agricultural calendar.

Czech breweries exported more than three millions hectoliters of beer

A number of beer exhibitions of domestic breweries according to first estimations grew in last year roughly by 1,5 percents to 19 millions of hectoliters. Especially quickly increasing export, which has exceeded three hectoliters for the first time in the history of Czech brewing, contributed to this growth. A chairman of the Czech Union of Breweries and Malting Plants (ČSPS) Jan Veselý disclosed preliminary results of the branch yesterday. Last year’s exhibition is regarded by brewers as a very good result. In 2004 domestic breweries produced 18,7 million hectoliters of beer, in 2003 by else 150 000 less.

Turkey meat consumption in the CR should double

In Europe it is three times to four times higher. During the year variations were recorded in purchase of turkey meat. It was caused mainly by the fact that producers supplied the market by turkey in 90 % as a whole. However, recently still more often portioned meat, turkey semi-products and meat products appear which will lead the consumer to the permanent purchase of turkey meat and thereby to increase of the total consumption. Poultry meat, not only turkey, but also chicken, duck and goose, is more popular in recent year in the Czech Republic and its consumption increased to last year’s 25 kg per head per year which is the EU average.
