Tragedy on Java – five thousand dead
Yogyakarta. Saturday, 5.55 in the morning. At this moment damaging earthquake hit the central part of Indonesian island Java. “When it started I run in the bedroom to take my family out”, one resident of the town Bantul opened his heart to the agency AP. “At that the whole house crashed down. All died” The earthquake afflicted a densely inhabited area. Yesterday offices counted almost five thousand dead, over 20 000 injured, about 200 000 people escaped from damaged homes. Unfortunately, this balance of the disaster is not final.
Food producers feel to be in danger
Prague.- Despite generally favourable year which Czech economic scene has got over, by far not all branches of processing industries managed to profit from last year’s economic boom. Hard time bears especially on food, boot and textile industries. It results from survey of the firm Coface.

Don’t reduce further Union agrarian customs duty
Ministers of agriculture of member states don’t agree with other concession at the WTO negotiation from the EU side. They agreed on it at a meeting in Austrian Kremže today. So, they are against further reducing custom duties over the frame which the EU introduced last autumn. The WTO would like to unify on basic moments of new agreement till the end of July. A disputed point remains agrarian trade in which, according to the head of WTO, Pascal Lamy, all three main blocks – the EU, the USA and big development countries headed by Brazil.
Environmental policy was underestimated
A report created by the Institute for the European environmental policy illustrates a picture of a progress in implementation of the 6th operational EU plan for environment and urges that most of aims of ten-year strategy will not be fulfilled till the year 2012. The report called “We continue farther. Implementation of the 6th operational EU plan for environment” was prepared by the Institute for European environmental policy for the European Environment Bure au (EEB). The aim of study was to prepare a report on the state of 6th operational plan in half-time of its lasting and evaluate its present implementation.
