Braník won the competition for the best beer

The lager of year became Braník from Pivovary Staropramen. The beer got the highest assessment in the 10th year of competition for the best beer of the Czech Republic, which took place in frame of the Festival of beer in České Budějovice. 55 exhibitors participated in the competition, however, the biggest Czech breweries Pilsen Prazdroj and Budějovice Budvar were missing. A jury evaluated beers in nine categories. Tasters were looking for the best taproom beer, the best dark beer, they evaluated lagers, beers without alcohol and beers with reduced content of sugar.

Regions want to distribute fifth of money from EU

A presumption for increase of share of regions in distribution European money is not only that they manage these programs but they also consult them in Brussels. Regions want to distribute at least 20 percent of the entire volume of money which the Czech Republic will get in years 2007 – 2013 from the European Union. At present they decide upon only 13,2 percent, said the chairman of council of the Association of Regions ČR Evžen Tošenovský (ODS) after its negotiations to journalists. According to him, over 20 percents also administrations in surrounding countries got for distribution, for example Poland and Hungary.

Areas of technical hemp enlarged this year to more than 1000 ha

Interest in technical hemp in the Czech Republic increases and seeded areas enlarged this year, according to preliminary data, to more than 1000 hectares. Last year they took about 160 hectares. There are tens of growers and beside bigger ones who buy also special technique, also there are more and more those who in the meanwhile try at small acreages till one hectare. ČTK was told it by a chairwoman of the Hemp Union ČR Marie Široká. Technical hemp which in growing rate turns back to Czech fields roughly after fifty years find use in many industries.

Forget spring and autumn, ice age is here

For a long time Europeans can cancel in a calendar two seasons: spring and autumn. According to scientists it is dealt with a consequence of periodical global climatic changes. ”Circulation of air starts changing. So the colder air from north and west will flow in the Czech Republic”, a climatologist Jan Pretel predicts. He reminds that similar changes come usually very suddenly.
