Union money for fishermen
The Czechs are weak fish consumers. Only 5,5 kilograms of fish falls on each of them yearly while the EU average is 11 kilograms. If the mentioned 5,5 kilograms were Czech fish, producers would be pleased. A paradox is that the Czechs eat much more sea fish. According to the Ministry of Agriculture the reason is obvious – a richer assortment of products from sea fish and sometimes moreover also lower prices. Fishery in the Czech Republic feels still more and more a pressure of European competition. Cheap salmons from farms firms from northern countries but also from China and carps and trout from Poland appear on the Czech market.
Prices of wheat on ten-year maximum due to lower harvest and reserves
Prices of wheat on American stock-exchange market rose on Tuesday on ten-year maximum. The British sheet Financial Times wrote today that the prices are pushed up by a fall of harvest in main production countries but also by a low level of world reserves. High stock-exchange prices will reflect in rise in price of basic foods which will affect also the Czech Republic. The price of main forward contract on wheat on Chicago stock-exchange CBOT rose on Tuesday to ten-year maximum of 5,24 dollars per bushel and in last two years it has increased by more than 13 percents. If levels from the year 1996 were exceeded then prices would got the highest in 30 years, so since 1976 when the world was hit by a wave of sultry heats.
Agrarian chamber leaves a time-limit to itself for negotiation on direct payments till the end of October
The Agrarian Chamber prolonged a term for negotiation on maximal direct payments for farmers for next year to the end of October. If the negotiations with representatives of parliamentary parties and agricultural and budgetary committee of the Parliament are successful, the Chamber is going to organize a huge protest action either with participation of large number of farmers or with use of machinery, for example tractors. As the ACH director Jan Veleba said, a definitive decision on a possible protest and its form should made at the end of October.
Summer echo will be replaced by fog and rain at the end of October
October weather looks like, meanwhile, as if summer came to an agreement with autumn and compensated August weather. Sunshine and temperatures about twenty degrees will last at least till the end of week. Only in mornings we have to count on fogs here and there. However, after the weekend it will start to get colder. On Wednesday it will be almost clear or somewhat cloudy, only in the morning and before midday fogs or low cloudiness can occur. Night temperature will decrease to two degrees of Celsius; also ground frosts can be expected. The highest temperatures will rise to 17 – 21 degrees.
