French prepare small viticultural revolution
The French want to conquer positions on the world wine market which they have lost in last years. Some of them welcome as a revolution the permission of the European Commission to use wooden shavings for ripening of wine instead of traditional barrels. This method was forbidden in France still recently. In spite of the permission concerns only the category of local wine (vin de pays), the French expect re-conquest of some positions which so called new producer countries have taken them on the world market. Use of shavings for wine ripening has been forbidden till this time in France and moreover some traditionalists have refused it as a certain sacrilege.
There will be a lack of sugar, alcohol will be raise in price
Consumers of spirits will have to dig down this year and mainly the next year. Also even in case that the proposal of the European Commission for higher taxation of spirits and beer was not approved. From the next year less sugar will be produced in the Czech Republic, so also less of molasses which is essential for production of food spirit. Spirit and sugar will have to be imported for higher prices in our country. According to food producers the mentioned rice in prices will be a consequence of unexpected declaration of French sugar-refinery group Eastern Sugar which announced end of sugar production in the Czech Republic. According to today’s expression of the spokeswoman of Ministry of Agriculture Táňa Králová, our country will lose a possibility to produce 102,5 tons of sugar which is 22,5 percents of national sugar quota.
Release of regulations on nominal size of packaging in EU
Less strictness from viewpoint of obligatory size of packaging is suggested above all in spirits and wines, and also in milk, butter and sugar. If the European Parliament approves it, milk, butter and sugar would be able to be sold in any size of packaging. It is a result of discussion of representatives of the EU member states, however, such change is out of question before 2011. Also adjustments of the explicit amounts in spirits and wine, in bread and tea come in question. In this sphere a pressure of producers, which strive for a freedom concerning size of packaging, appears.
