Farmers in Semily will probably lose quarter of cows due to BSE
According to preliminary estimations due to so called disease of mad cows (BSE) the agricultural company Agrocentrum Jizeran in Semily will obviously have to kill more than quarter of its 700 dairy cows. Miroslav Hejduk, economists of the enterprise, said it to CTK today. The disease was revealed by two quick tests of a six-year died cow from the company breeding. Veterinarians do not suppose that check tests results of which will be next week would disprove the finding. Since 2001 it has already been the twenty-fifth case of BSE in the Czech Republic.
Cotton can feed world
Thanks to gene manipulation the most important natural raw material of textile industry can become also a resource of food for hundred millions of people. Approximately every eight person living today on the Earth suffers from permanent undernourishment. A lack of food is a cause of dead of three million children every year. Many people endangered by starvation can be saved by a plant which is grown widely in the third world, however, its fruits are not used for food purpose meanwhile. It is the cotton. It is not known that in growing cotton necessary for production of one kilogram of fibre also as much as 1,6 kilogram of seeds is produced containing highly quality proteins.
Conservators of animals celebrates. They are in Parliament
The Netherlands Parliament as the first in the world can boast of a couple of representatives who superordinated animals’ rights to peoples’ rights. Parliamentary elections in the Netherlands showed that after-election stalemate became a traditional result in Europe. It was not a surprise that nor right wing neither left wing managed to get most in the parliament; the matter of interest became a success of conservationists of animals who even want to change the Netherlandish constitution due to them. A party for animals fought out two representatives in one-hundred-and-fifty-member lower chamber of the Parliament.
Milk market and milk quotas
A system of milk quotas should be in force in the EU till the 31st of March, 2015. However, at present a possibility to end this system sooner is discussed. A regulation of quaranteed amount of milk in frame of the EU has already been in force for 22 years. Discussions about their further lasting still take place. After the end of reform in July 2003 in Luxembourg the system of milk quotas should be valid at present till the 31st March 2015. A premature termination of their validity, but also on the contrary further lengthening of their validity, are 2 variants of a possible development in this area.
