Commision has increased volume of emission permits for the first time
The European Commission has adjusted already allotted amount of permits for carbon dioxide emissions for the first time. The Commission slightly increased amount of permits to Ireland and to Latvia for 2008 - 2012 on base of additional information which both countries have supplied by the end of last year. The Commission increased the volume of permits to Ireland by 1,18 million tons to 22,3 million CO2 yearly, so almost at a level of 22,6 million as Dublin had asked for originally. For Latvia the quota increased by 0,14 million tons of carbon dioxide to 3,43 million, so still deeply under a level of 7,7 million tons which Latvia has demanded.
Experts: Present off-killing of poultry willnot influence supply of meat on market
Generally, experts, which were interviewed by CTK, aggree that present off-killing of poultry due to bird flu will not influence much a domestic production and supply of poutry meat on market. In total, numbers of broilers and turkey-hens determined to be liquidate represent less than one percent of yearly production. Nor dispatch of about 70 000 hens lying starting eggs should, according to people from the branch, influence an offer of one-day chickens for further breeding. According to Vlastislav Machander from a state enterprise Mezinárodní testování drůbeže (International Poultry Testing) about 140 million pieces of chicken and about three million turkey hens are fattened yearly in the Czech Republic. According to present decisions of veterinarians in total roughly 19 000 turkey-hens and 83 000 broilers should be destroyed due to spread of the infection in breedings in the region Ústí nad Orlicí.
Numbers of cattle have increased in four years in Karlovy vary region; numbers of pigs have dropped away
There is also less amount of poultry bred in the region. From the year 2003 to this year´s April a number of cattle and of some other farm animals increased slightly in the region Karlovy Vary. In comparison with it numbers of pigs decreased significantly. A slight increase has been recorded during last year and half in cattle. The decrease of numbers of pigs, by as much as half, is connected with a break of 2005 and 2006 (Czech Statistic Office). In 2003 farmers bred 34 819 pieces of cattle in Karlovy vary region, from it 15 149 cows. There were 47 703 pieces of pigs in large-scale breeding and small farms. Since that time numbers of cattle have decreased slightly to 33 366 pieces last year in April which meant a fall by 4,2 percent since 2003.
