Government approved increase of support of school milk

Also after return from holidays in school-desks children in the Czech Republic will have possibility to buy subsidized milk products. Increase in support of so called school milk for 2007/2008 was passed by the government today. “A reason for the adjustment is also expected growth of costs for particular products and wider accessing of these products. It is dealt with an offer of fresh milk products which started to be distributed in schools from September 2006 by means of cooled distribution - milk automatic machines”, said the Minister of Agriculture Petr Gandalovič who put forward the proposal to the government. According to the minister this way is modern, hygienic and for pupils it is a comfortable way of distribution enabling good account.

Heat changes orchards in Haná

Summer heats change future plans of central-Bohemian fruit-growers. Due to escalating temperatures which do not well to traditional fruits from Haná - apples, some farmers even consider to start growing more soft fruits which did not do well before. Apple trees at many places maybe will be supplemented with peach trees and apricot tree. I am a fruit-grower for ten years and heat still escalates here. Old varieties of apple-trees are not able to resist to such temperature shocks; we will have to look for some more resistant”, Miroslav Peterka who has orchards in Křelov near Olomouc plans. He will grow probably also peach trees and apricot trees. “It was confirmed that soft fruits starts to go well here”, Peterka insists.

Heat terrorizes Hungarians and Romanians. Hundreds of dead

While it went cool in the Czech Republic, temperatures over forty degrees of Celsius torment Romania and Hungary already for more than a week. Hungarian ministry of health estimates that heats has cased already over five hundreds of victims. The highest temperature - 41,9 degrees - was measured in south of the country in a small town Kiskunhalás. It is dealt with Hungarian record since time when it started to be measured. In Romania the present wave of heats went away with thirty five people, hereat in June other thirty died of the same sake.

Vine-growers who still at the beginning of summer took pleasure in that the harvest could be very good speak now about modern scourge - sunstroke or burn of grape-vine. A detail inspection round of the variety Ruland white vine which Jaroslav Vaďura from Polešovice owns showed clearly what forty-degree heat manages. More than third of vine grapes on particular bunches of grapes is scorched and also the remaining ones are harmed. “In estimation as much as twenty percent grapes is lost. Moreover, the remaining on the bunch grow soft, fall in, shrink, so at he loss will still increase”, the vine-grower with forty-year experience says. In the same way the extreme heat damaged also Rheinriesling.
