Sarkozy spoke about EU Common agricultural policy

A new French president approaches this area of policy quite to the contrary than his forerunner Jacques Chirac. He demands to sped change of principles of the EU Common agricultural policy. For the first time since his election by president, Nicolas Sarkozy has expressed his opinion of the present form of the Common agricultural policy (CAP) on the occasion of opening of agricultural exhibition in Rennes (Brittany). He sees the present CAP as stationary, obsolete and unable to answer challenges which the state will face in 2013. This year was agreed by EU states as a limit for persistence of the present CAP. Voting of this date was accompanied by objections and dissatisfaction first of all from the side of Great Britain and other countries which wished an earlier reform. The president specified that France will propose new targets of the Common agricultural policy during its presidency in the EU, so in the second half of 2008.

SZIP recommends caution in buying food supplements sold at presentation actions

Recently there have been more and more cases when food supplements promising improvement of health, cure of diseases and other miracles are offered at presentation actions or tours, or through internet. SZIP recommends consumers to be cautious in buying these products. Consumers are often deceived in this way which can be hardly sanctioned.

Gandalovič: We want to stimulate development of rural regions

The Rural Development Program and a reform of the Common agricultural policy of the EU in a period 2007 - 2013, an influence of reform of public finances for a budget chapter of the Ministry of Agriculture for 2008 and a settlement of property shares from transformation of agricultural cooperatives - these topics were discussed at a nation-wide seminar in Žďár nad Sázavou where also the Minister of Agriculture Petr Gandalovič gave his speech yesterday at early afternoon. Further also a chairman of agricultural committee of the Chamber of Deputies of Parliament of the CR Jiří Papež, the president of Agrarian Chamber of the CR Jan Veleba, the 1st secretary of Permanent representation of the CR in the European Union Jiří Šír, and a director of the Research Institute of Agricultural Economics Dušan Vaněk presented their contributions.

Action “Honey” in full progress

A targeted action for inspection of sold honey which is organized at present by the State Veterinary Administration of the CR brings first results. The action “Honey” takes place from August and it will be analyzed by the end of September. The first results show that Czech honey, in comparison with some imported ones, has no faults. Till this time problems have been found out in some honeys imported from Slovakia, Poland and Spain.
