Farmers are second-best in republic

Zlín region can boast about the second place in nationwide scale in harvest of cereals. Only the region Olomouc was better. “Yield of cereals is in total more than six tons per hectare. In perennial wheat it is 6,7 tons per hectare, in spring barley 5,6 tons per hectare. The region placed even on the first place in harvest of rape with a hectare yield 3,3 tons”, a director of Agrarian Chamber of the region Zlín Milan Hebnar told.

Reduction of cholesterol in foods

Cholesterol is an important animal steroid which is in all cells and tissues in all living being including the man. An average human body contains in total 150g of cholesterol and daily it synthetizes 700 – 1500 mg of cholesterol for compensation of losses caused mainly by excretion in dejection. Cholesterol has many functions in a body. It is essential for production of bile acids enabling digestion of lipids contains in food. It is an important building component of cell membranes and packing layers of nerves. Cholesterol is an antecedent of steroid hormones and vitamin D.

Nature of Šumava can get completely under politicians´ influence

A month and half before regional elections representatives of the region Pilsen adopted a draft law on Šumava which would conform the biggest Czech national park to politicians´ power. The park, according to the draft, would not be managed by a director nominated on base of expert presumptions like till this time by the Ministry of Environment but a by 21-member National Park Committee whose composition would be determined purely by politicians. The proposal counts also on that trees parasitized with wood-engraver could be harvested even in the most valuable parts of Šumava where it is now forbidden by the Ministry of Environment on base of international recommendations.

Undesirable substances in grilled meat

Scientists from Kansas State University tested three kinds of commercial marinade (Caribbean, South-West and Herb) from a point of view of influence on undesirable substances during grilling. Steak marinated for 1 hour and grilled in 204°C for 5 minutes were tested for a content of carcinogenic agents and results were compared with meat marinated only in soya oil, water and vinegar. Meat marinated with content spices – thyme, pepper, allspice, rosemary, red pepper, basil, chilli red pepper, oregano, garlic and onion showed less content of harmful carcinogenic agents come into being in grilling.
