Veleba: Entire last year´s Czech farmers´ profit was created by subsidies

According to management of the Agrarian Chamber of the CR (AK), first of all an underflow of most prices of agrarian products, a continuing crisis in pig breeding, and a crash of milk market negatively influenced economy of Czech agriculture. If farmers earned 13,7 billion in 2007, last year it was 9,7 billion crowns and the entire profit was created by subsidies, a president of AK Jan Veleba said at today´s meeting of AK in Olomouc. According to Veleba, last year´s farmers economic result, which was the second best after the CR admission into the EU, influenced positively “a finish of boom of 2007” thanks to which buy-out prices were favourable in the first half of 2008.

The Czech Republic and the Netherlands have not come to agreement yet regarding Edam and Gouda

The Czech Republic and the Netherlands still have not come to an agreement on award of trademark fol Dutch Edam and Gouda which Dutch producers apply for. A deadline for concluding peace between both sides will expire on the 21st of April; then the European Commission will enter a final verdict, an Euro-representative Jan Březina (KDU-ČSL) informed ČTK in a press release today. He also announced that he is going to ask for an European trademark for Czech Edam. An appraisal of trademark to Dutch dairymen could endanger Czech producers, a director of office of the Food Chamber of the CR Tomáš Kreutzer told today.

Milk price still decreases, stocks are full of reserves of butter

He eats Czech yogurt for breakfast and from TV screen he urges citizens to buy milk and yougurts from Czech producers. He very speaks for brushing-off Union regulation tools which should exhaust milk from the flooded European market. He regularly speak about milk problems with European agrarian commissioner Mariann Fisher-Boel. The Minister of Agriculture Petr Gandalovič (ODS) wanted during Czech presidency in the European Union to solve completely different topics than to stop underflow of farmer milk prices. Several-month problems with this commodity are given by the fact that there is too much of it for Europe and even after price decrease is still too expensive for the world market. The Union tries to dump them by pumping billions of Euro into export subventions and intervention purchases of

redundant butter and dry milk.

Bio-food of the year for branch gastro are potatoes from Biofarma Sasov

The title Czech bio-food 2008 for gastronomy and public boarding was bestowed to potatoes from Josef Sklenář from Biofarma Sasov near Jihlava at Brno fair G+H yes material for kitchens which wants to rank bio-food in its menu, a competition organizer Tom Václavík said to ČTK. Results of other categories and the total winner of the competition will be announced on the 25th of March at a gala-evening of conference Bio Summit 2009 in Prague. Sklenář is an organic farmer and a pioneer of organic pig breeding in the Czech Republic.
