SMO: Condition agricultural subsidies on cattle breeding
The Marginal Areas Union (SMO) requires so that direct subsidies would be conditioned on cattle breeding, or ruminant breeding. Just so from a long-term point of view support of cattle breeding can be ensured which is so much discussed today. Direct agricultural subsidies are decisive payments which Czech farmers will collect. Other payments by far do not reach this height – e.g. LFA, so called supports of less favourable areas, will have been only 7,7 % of volume of direct subsidies by the 2013. SMO watches apprehensively various non-system proposals which mostly “rob Peter to pay Paul”.
Despite decrease in numbers of dairy cows milk production increased last year
Milk production in the Czech Republic increased by 40 million liters last year and reached, according to preliminary data, 2,727 billion liters. The Department of Communication of the Ministry of Agriculture acquainted with it Mediafax on Tuesday. Czech milk production in 2007 was 2,683 billion liters and in 2006 the CR produced 2,694 billion liters of milk. According to the Ministry self-sufficiency of the CR in milk production amount 107 percent last year; in 2007 it was 106,1 percents. “Nevertheless, before the ČR accession into the EU, in 2003, the self-sufficiency of our country was 121,6 percents”, Gandalovič´s office admits.
Reputedly 4000 farmers will participate in Thursday demonstration
At least 4000 people, of it one from abroad, will participate in the Thursday demonstration. The president of Agrarian Chamber Jan Veleba reckoned. Farmers from several European countries, during a visit of Euro-commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Mariann Fisher-Boel, are going to protest especially against different conditions which farmers have in old and new member states. They also require a support for breeders of dairy cows.
Number of cattle year-on-year increased in region Ústí; however, numbers are low
Despite a long-term decrease numbers of cattle increased by 2,8 percents in the region Ústí last year. Farmers kept 40 423 pieces of cattle in total at the year end which is by 1119 pieces more than a year ago. Nevertheless, numbers of cattle decreased in the region approximately by 12 percents in last six years; only farmers in the region Karlovy Vary keep less number of animals. It results from data published by the Czech Statistic Office (ČSÚ). Meanwhile farmers do not express their opinion of a statistics; they will wait for April count of breedings. According to the Regional Agrarian Chamber the number of cattle can still decrease, mainly of dairy cows.
