Wheat continues in fall

Wheat price continued in decrease during yesterday´s trading on Chicago Board of Trade whereas July contract forfeited 1,28 percents per 539,75 cent for bushel. A cause was strengthening dollar which invokes fears that the interest in American exports of the commodity could decrease in the future. The price was pushed to the bottom even by reports about a good crop. At the beginning of June wheat reached a several-month maximum at the level 677 cents for bushel. In less than month it lost approximately 20 percents.

Foreigners will take us land, farmers claim

Farmers are angry. More and more. The reason is a recent Parliament´s decision according to which foreigners will have better accession to the state land than now. Till this time only Czech citizen could buy it. “It is a very impetuous decision which can have fateful consequences”, Břetislav Hrbáč, a chief of agricultural cooperative in Opava region, sours. According to him Czech farmers are not able in many cases to compete with foreign production.” And what when foreigners with their financial means and subsidies will start to buy up Czech land”, he adds.

Preservation by acidity increase

Vegetable pickling is a traditional way of conservation by acidifying, dealing with a direct addition of acids (e.g. acetic acid) or creation of acids during fermentation (above all lactic acid). An addition of salt prevent from growth of undesirable competing microorganisms during fermentation. An original main aim of acidity increase of a food was to prevent bacteria C. botulinum from production of toxins (marginal pH is 4,6).

A Minster of Interior Martin Pecina was acquainted by Jan Veleba, a president of AK ČR (Agrarian Chamber), with places where a prepared demonstration will take place on the 29th of June morning on high-ways and other ways leading out of towns. Slowly moving agricultural machines will obstruct the transportation. On morning he negotiated with representatives of agrarian chambers of those regions where these protest actions will be organized. It will be sorties of high-ways D1, D5 and in South Bohemian and East Bohemian regions. At the same time Jan Veleba explained reasons of the protests of Czech farmers to the minister Pecina.
