Senate supported amendment of act on seeds and seedlings circulation

The Senate approved a novel of law on seeds and seedlings circulation at its today´s negotiation. An aim of the tabled proposal is an achievement of harmony with EU legal regulations in area of implementation of seeds and seedlings in circulation, especially in implementation in circulation of seeds of varieties which are significant from a view-point of maintenance of genetic plant resources. The approved amendment defines some new terms as for example a regional variety, a conserved variety, maintenance of genetic material in its natural environment and especially it sets conditions for implementation in circulation of seeds of conserved varieties.

Beer from Brno obtained EU trademark

Beer from Brno (Brněnské pivo) and Starobrněnské pivo (Starobrněnské beer) have obtained an EU trademark. The European Commission informed on it today. It joins roughly two tens of Czech products which already appear on a list of more than 850 products with some mark of the EU. The EU distinguishes three kinds of registration: the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI), the Protected Designations of Origin (PDO) and the Traditional Speciality Guaranteed (TSG), The first two named trademarks guarantee that the products is partially or completely produced in a certain geographical area.

European Union will possibly forbid exports of Australian kangaroo meat

On base of report evaluating a sanitary practice in meat industry processing kangaroo meat, exports of Australian kangaroo meat in Europe are endangered. The European Union entrusted the organization Animal Liberation with reporting about health standards, contributions to welfare and sustainability of kangaroos breeding for meat. Immediately after findings of antibiotics in bodies of slaughtered animals in 2008, Russia imposed a ban on kangaroo meat from three Australian production enterprises.

Brussels want to stabilize milk market as soon as possible

The European Commission wants further to support milk producers and to stabilize milk and milk product market. “We have to do all what we can do to help milk producers which fight with a dramatic price fall”, the commissioner for agriculture and rural development Mariann Fischer-Boël communicated. “To stabilize the market we will use all disposable measures. However, as the European Council stated clearly, we will not cancel our policy of a gradual and respectful termination of quotas.
