Hop-growers started harvesting, crop will be similar to last year

Most hop-growers started harvesting. Of the total 5306 hectares of planted areas owing to summer storms and strong wind 140 hectares of hop-gardens fell, a chairman of the Hop-Growers Union of the CR Bohumil Pázler said to ČTK. He expects the crop at a year-on-year comparable level, however, in some areas just owing to natural disasters results will be worse. „The crop last year was good, of 5035 hectares 6752 tons of hop was successfully harvested. The yields reached 1,27 ton per hectare, this year it could be about 1,2 ton“, Pázler told.

Decrease of wheat price on CBOT has stopped

On base of speculations, according to which a drought in Australia, which after the United States, Russia and Canada is the fourth biggest wheat exporter in the world, will decrease the total volume of this year´s production of the mentioned commodity, a price of the most active December futures of wheat contract increased in frame of yesterday´s trade séance on the change Chicago Board of Trade. Nor for following seven days are announced any rain falls in growing areas of Australia.

Numbers of cattle and pigs almost unchaged

As a federal statistic office Destatis announced, results of farm animal counts to the 3rd of May 2009 in Germany showed that approximately 67 600 agricultural enterprises specialized on pig breeding stable 26,9 mil. pieces of pigs of various categories. Numbers of cattle reached almost 12,9 mil. and sheep 2,4 mil. pieces. Contrary to the previous counts to the 3rd of November 2008, the numbers of pigs increased by 0,6 % while numbers of cattle decreased by 0,3 % in the monitored period. Numbers of sheep fell by 2,7 %.

Farmers will sell crop-plants for cheaper by third

This year´s unfavourable weather projected in the total amount of harvested areas only slightly. However, the harvest quality differs in particular agricultural cooperatives. “Yields were average in our coop. The weather was not quite favourable, however, it did not cause larger damages”, a director of Agricultural Join Stock Company Zbizuby, Jiří Tvrdík, mentioned. A similar situation is also in other enterprises. “Despite the fact that weather was not quite ideal at the beginning, we succeeded to harvest rouhly the same and quality crop as in last years”, an economist of the Owners Cooperative Krchleby Jana Nováková presented.
