Alternative for meat cattle breeding?

A local bred of cattle Parthenais belonged outside France territory to little known twenty years ago. Gradually hundreds of animals were imported in Great Britain and Ireland, also the bred is still more and more known in the United States and Canada. A virtue of the bred Parthenais is similarly high daily accruals of live weight as in main meat breds raised in Framce, genetic gifts for excellent muscles in main meat parts, and a very good taste of meat.

Janota´s parcel will strongly choke famers

An extraordinary meeting of presidency and supervisory board of the Agrarian Chamber of the CR is called on this Friday the 2nd of October 2009 in Velké Meziříčí on base of the actual development in sector, a deepening commodity crisis practically in all branches (in the long term in milk and cereals, repeatedly in pig meat…), an unclear state of state budget and budget of chapter of the Ministry of Agriculture (MZe) for 2010, a pressure on other expenditures of the agri-food complex from a title of so called “Janota´s saving parcel”, and inadequate approach of the MZe to solutions of the mentioned problems.

Estimation of rice production

According to the American ministry of agriculture USDA, the world rice production in the economic year 2009/2010 should reach 449,5 mil. t, i.e. 1 % above the production of 2008/2009 (443,9 mil. t). In spite of a relative lacks in production, reserves should reach 95 mil. t at the end of the year 2009/2010, which means the highest achieved ratio of reserves to the production in last 7 years – 21,6 % (the latest higher was in 2002/2003 – 25,5 %).

Farmers will be the worse for warming. They will forfeit crop more often

A meteorologist Jaroslav Rožnovský does not have good news for Czech farmers. Floods, hail storms as well as long-term drought will damage them a crop the more the more often. It is owing to a global warming. “Temperatures increase, the trend is here”, Rožnovský told. He is leads a branch office of the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute in Brno and gives lectures at Mendel´s Agricultural and Forestry University. “The warming on our territory represents a higher occurrence of extremes, a vegetation period extends, however, also a danger of damage on growths by frosts increases”, Rožnovský added. According him it results from data of meteorological stations in recent years that the number of significant weather and variability swings increases.
