Other pressures around milk – Press release from 3.11.2009

The Union of Marginal Areas (SMO) representing breeders of dairy and meat cows has to react to the present situation around milk. The last drop was yesterday´s expression of the Agrarian Chamber which under guise of defence of dairy cows taxes very unequally meat cows with an increase in support by only 50 mil. CZK this year. However, it absolutely omits a fact that numbers of meat cows grow owing to transfers from dairy cows and that the Ministry of Agriculture has already agreed more than 3 billion CZK for milk endowments. Nevertheless, both are known for a longer time.

Minister Šebesta approved rates of national additional payments

The Ministry of Agriculture on base of farmers´ requests has set rates of national additional payments Top-Up for 2009. On base of document signed by the minister Jakub Šebesta yesterday, 6,3 billion crowns will go to farmers. Calculation of the rates was carried out on base of height of national envelopes approved by the European Commission, total means determined for national additional payments in 2009, and the exchange rate 25,164 crowns for euro.

No traces of GM corn in meat of wild animals

Molecular biologists from the Technical University in Munich (TUM) issued an expert´s opinion which destroys startlers: Traces of genetically modified corn were proved neither in venison meat (Dama dama) and wild-boars (Sus strofa) nor GM corn was enlarged further by means of excrements of wild animals. Experts from a research center in Weihestephan elaborated many experiments and subsequently analyzed samples of viscuses by the help of modern microbiological methods as well as excrements of animals for a presence of corn grains able to sprout after passage through digestive tract of wild animals.

Lesy ČR opened first single-trek trail in CR

The first 12 kilometers of a planned circle of unique single-trek bike-trails designed by a world recognized draftsman Daffyd Davis are opened in Jizerské mountains from Monday, the 2nd of November. Building of the trail for 4,3 million crowns was financed by the state enterprise Lesy ČR in frame of a Program 2000, determined to meet public interests in forests. It is dealt with the first bike-trail of this type in the CR and continental Europe designed for a maximal enjoyment from biking with a respect to the nature. The single-trek under Smrk could come into being thanks to enthusiasm and partnership among foresters, a local self-government and a non-profit sector.
