CSO: Harvest of cereals will be by 7,5 pct lower this year against last one

According to an estimation of Czech Statistic Office to the 15th of October, farmers harvested 7,730 million tons of cereals including corn for grain this year which is by 7,5 percents less than a year ago. An estimated hectare yield 5,09 tons is by 6,1 percents lower than in 2008. An expected harvest of potatoes, 767.000 tons is lower by 0,3 pct than last year. Statisticians estimated sugar beet production about 2,862 million tons; the last year´s harvest of the crop was by 23.000 tons higher. An expected hectare yield is by 2,71 tons lower than the last year´s one. An estimation of fodder production from permanent grass growths was published for the first time this year.

Fines for exceeding of European Union´s quotas

Probably, Brussels will withdraw as many as 99 million Euro from five states which according to preliminary results going from annual reports exceeded their milk quotas in the economic year 2008/2009. The quotas of deliveries in dairy works were exceeded by Italy, Cyprus, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Austria. In total it was dealt with a sum 348 400 tons from which a necessity to pay a payment in a total height 97 million Euro results. Italy delivered more by 1,5 percents, the Netherlands by 1,4 percents and Austria by 1,2 percents. In a direct sale, it was sold more milk to customers than it was determined by the quota in Italy and the Netherlands.

Bird flu rages in breedings of wild ducks

A virus of bird flu was confirmed by veterinarians in the region České Budějovice on Thursday afternoon. Infected birds are ducks from raising of the company Lesy a rybníky města České Budějovice. However, according to specialists it is dealt with low-pathogenic virus, so a risk of spread of the infection or even a risk of its transmission on human is small. Despite the fact it is necessary to carry out some measures. The least pleasant especially for the veterinarian, who care for the breeding, is killing of all 280 birds. Already not it is secured so that the infection could not spread farther. So called zone with limitation will be declared in a kilometers circuit from the center.

Old countries fulfill Union storage facilities

There is one more reason, besides four others, why milk production in Europe has problems. MVDr. Ivo Paulík from a firm Fides Agro specified it at a press conference organized by the Agrarian Chamber of the CR recently. He introduced evidences of that in some old countries of the European Union certain commodities are supported from state budgets, in which the states are interested. They can be pigs, elsewhere milk or feeding crops. Helping their farmers in such a way in old countries of the Union, the loss of competitiveness in farmers in new countries, including the Czech Republic, deepens.
