Czech country will get by 1,5 billion crowns more from European Union

Czech agriculture will get almost 1,5 billion crowns extra from union means. The additional money will support approximately 300 projects of the Rural Development Program and will aim especially at cattle breeders and to support production of renewable resources. The union Committee for Rural Development decided on the increase on Wednesday. All EU member states will get in total in count approximately 26 billion crowns extra. The Ministry of Agriculture informed about it . “The increase of financial means for the Rural Development Program by more than one billion crowns represents very good news for our agrarian sector; the support will flow above all in the milk sector hit by a crisis, for renewable resources, and to moderate climatic changes”.

Takings of dairy works probably decreased last year, pressure of chains on prices persisted

Takings and export probably decreased in large dairy works last year. It resulted from a ČTK inquiry. Takings of Olma Olomouc, the second important milk producers, decreased by 15 percents according to preliminary results to 3,5 billion crowns. South-Bohemian Madety informed than without presenting concrete numbers that it had recorded decrease in export and even the number of consumers of more expensive brand products. According to dairy works, results of the decrease are impacts of the economic crisis and a pressure of trade chains on prices. On the contrary, farmers are under burden of too low buy-out milk process.

Nobody wants sheep wool

Sheep wool is waste. Sometime priced textile raw-material became unusable and sheep breeders do not want what to do with. For example sheep-farmers know it. They care about one of the biggest breeding sheep herds in the whole Czech Republic in Lesní statek in Jelení between Karlovice and Holčovice. “We always bred sheep and we breed them still because sheep just belong here in the mountains. The main role of sheep is maintenance of the landscape and other product is lamb for meat. It is our main product and than there is the wool”, Petr Sedláček younger, a livestock specialist and the chief sheep-farmer from Lesní statek Jelení told.

Vegetable growing area decreased last year in Czech Republic

The vegetable growing area decreased last year in the Czech Republic. Czech producers growed it on roughly 9100 hectares last year, the growing area in 2008 was by about 17 percents higher. The decrease is connected with a decrease in manufacturing capacity in the Czech Republic, the chairman of Vegetable Union of Bohemian and Moravia Jaroslav Zeman said to ČTK today. According to him, the last year´s vegetable harvest was standard from the view-point of yields. Last year, despite the decrease in growing area Czech professional vegetable growers increased slightly their market production. According to estimations of the Vegetable Union, it grew to 277,282 tons which represents a year-on-year increase by four percents.
