Globus withdrew from sale mouldy nuts originated in Georgia

The trade chain Globus witdrew from its premises nuts from Georgia. The State Agricultural and Food Inspection (SZPI) had found out a mould and a rot. ČTK is discovered on the internet sites of SZPI and the chain. Customers can bring back the already bought nuts and they will get money back.

Farmers in Zlín region reduced pig breeding last year

Farmers in the region Zlín reduced pig breeding. While at the end of 2008 they raised 72 110 pieces of animals; last year it was already 66 987 which represents a year-on-year decrease by 7.1 percents. The number of pigs decreased year-on-yearly in the entire Czech Republic, by 10.4 percents to 1.9 million pieces. It results from data of the Czech Statistic Office (ČSÚ). Farmers not only from Zlín region state that breeding of these farm animals is one of the least profitable of all the agricultural branches.

New variety of rice resists cold

An unexpectedly cold weather leads in to drastic loses in yields South Corea and China, similarly as in December 2009 in Indian area Orissa and in Vietnam in February 2008. Because the rice yields increase does not keep pace with a population increase, the harvest should be secured by a rice variety resistant to cold. In such a case also those growing areas could be used for rice growing which have been considered as conditionally suitable so far.

Financial support of European Union for ecological projects – European program LIFE+

Yesterday, Moravian-Silesian region opened festively a project “Unified Information and Communication System of Nature Conservation in NUTS II Moravia-Silesia”, realized with contribution of a financial tool of the European Community LIFE+. The Community program LIFE+ is a financial tool for the area of environment for the period 2007 – 2013. LIFE+ provides a financial aid to solve concrete problems of the environment which can not be financed within other endowment titles. The program LIFE+ is in the Czech Republic coordinated by the Ministry of Environment.
