Breakthrough in EU: GM potato Amflora enters market

According to actual data of the International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-Biotech Applications (ISAAA), which has recently published data on development of areas of genetically modified (GM) crop plants over 2009, it could seem that Europe has already irretrievably missed the ”GM train”. While according to ISAAA the areas of GM crop plants in the world increased by seven percents to total 134 million hectares last year, in the EU they decreased by 12 percents to less than 95 thousand hectares. However, “under surface” of the mentioned information it looks quite different.

Land adjustments and their financial security for period 2010 - 2013

The Ministry of Agriculture produced actually a “Plan of land offices activity including needs of financial security in 2010 to 2013”. This four-year plan works out concretely a conception of land adjustments and determines priorities for the area of land adjustments. For this year 2.33 billion crowns in total are prepared for land adjustments, which represents meanwhile a record volume of money. It is obvious that clearing of owner relationships and, of course, more efficient arrangement of owner possession increase an interest of a significant most of the proceeding participants, an extraordinary share of which is taken by municipalities.

The Ministry of Agriculture will deprive Czech organic farming of 154 mil. CZK this and next year, if a proposed version of the article 68 is enforced, according to which other farmers will have to club for milk overproduction. The proposal is presented as “Statutory order on determination of some conditions for provision of payment on cows bred in the system with market milk production”. While Europe makes towards to bind more and more money paid off to farmers to a proper landscape and environment cultivation, the Czech Republic goes in opposite direction.

Better meat marketing

Marketing of pig meat should be conceived in a new way in Canada. At present the field battle with similar problems which pig breeders from EU member countries have face up. The strength of domestic currency and high costs for feeding weaken competitiveness on export markets. Canadian pig meat should no longer be only a serial product, but it has to be sold as branded article, representatives of Canadian Pork Council (CPC) stated.
