Some fields in Vysočina suffer from mould owing to long winter with snow

In some places of Vysočina winter crops have been damaged with mould owing to a high snow cover which has been lying on fields for about three months, Generally, according to first estimations of agricultural enterprises, damages after the winter would not have to be so wide. However, a part of effected growths will have to be ploughed and re-sown, thereby the growing will become dearer. Spring works on fields in Vysočina started by fertilization of winter crops last week. According to ČTK enquiry, firms start to sow now, too.

Consumption of fresh-water fish in the Czech Republic increased year-on- yearly

A production of market fish obtained by breeding in 2009 over the entire Czech Republic slightly exceeded 20 thousand tonnes. The total sale of inland fresh-water fish increased year-on-yearly by more than 600 tonnes in our republic. Since 2000 consumption of fresh-water fish has been finally successfully increased in the internal market above the export level by 10 %.

Common market and functioning of food chain were discussed by Council of Ministers of Agriculture today

At today´s Council of Ministers of Agriculture in Brussels, the functioning of food chain and the common agricultural policy were discussed, mainly measures for market managing after 2013. The Czech Republic welcomes an activity of Spanish presidency in the area of the future of common agricultural policy, especially because it is dealt with a continuation of work of Czech presidency.

Acreage of fields with GM corn in CR will most likely decrease

The area of fields sown with genetically modified corn in the Czech Republic will most likely, the same as last year. Instead of last year´s 4680 hectares the acreage will probably moves between 5500 to 6000 hectares. Also genetically modified potatoes will be grown newly in our republic; it results from information provided by the Ministry of Agriculture to ČTK. The cause of decrease of corn fields is a problematic sale of so called Bt corn.
