Sowing of spring crops has started; areas of cereals should slightly decrease this year

Farmers started to sow cereals around the March 20, roughly the same as last year. A secretary of the Agricultural Union of the CR, Martin Pýcha, said it to ČTK today. Sowing machines set off earliest in Haná, which has the most suitable conditions for cereals growing. Others followed, at first mainly low land regions. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the total area sown with cereals should decrease very slightly year-on-yearly this year. A significant warming in March enabled farmers, according to Pýcha, to start to sow sooner than it was initially estimated regarding this year´s long and hard winter.

According to investigation, Europeans are against decrease of EU subsidies for farmers

A significant majority of European is for so that farmers get a financial support from the European Union budget in the same or more significant height from now on. It is shown by results of a recent investigation Eurobarometr available on pages of the European Commission. 39 percents of respondents were for increase of subsidies in next ten years. At the same time, 33 percents of people were for their maintenance at the present height, vice versa only 14 percents of the polled expressed for decrease. In the Czech Republic, 54 percent of people would welcome increase of financial support for farmers while 32 percent would let them as they are now.

Madeta succeeded to pre-order 160 000 liters of milk which it misses

The South-Bohemian dairy works Madeta has a pre-ordered delivery of further roughly 70 000 liters of milk daily; in total it has already succeeded to arrange 160 000 liters. It is more than three quarter of the volume which it misses owing to a drop out of supplies from Mlékařské družstvo Jih (cooperative), a spokeswoman of Madeta, Barbora Daňková said to ČTK. A term and conditions or deliveries are discussed for the present. The cooperative stopped to deliver 200 000 liters daily to Madeta from today. The reason is a dispute about a buy-out price. Plants of Madeta works meanwhile like in full milk supply, none of the premises have been reduced yet.

Amount of wood will be low

Yearly timber harvests in the CR will decrease roughly by two to three millions cubic meters of wood against the present. It will bring many problems. There will be a lack of wood and it will be more expensive, moreover, forest workers will not have so much work in harvesting. The reason is simple. An increase of wood mass in Czech forests gradually stops because wood grow slower on younger growths. Older trees planted in the first half of last century are already almost cut. “Future harvests are given by a historical development, for example by a mass planting in the 30´s of last century after forest calamities”.
