Meat production and cereals harvest decreased in Karlovy Vary region last year

Production of basic agricultural products, whether meat or cereals, decreased in the region Karlovy Vary last year. The production decrease was influenced mainly by lower buy-out prices but also favourable weather. In case of meat, pig production still decreases; it does not pay off to breeders. Year-on-year decrease reached in meat 28.2 percents. Farmers harvested by 12.3 percents less cereals against the year 2008. The information was published by an affiliated branch of the Czech Statistical Office.

Fall on sugar market

Price of sugar went down ny more than five percents at the last week end when the main reason was a reaction of joint-stock and commodity markets to an accusation of the bank Goldman Sachs from the side of American Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The Commission charges the bank that it cheated its clients. During Friday trading on the stock exchange ICE Futures, the sugar contracts lost 0.90 cents (5.3 %) to 16.18 cents for pound. The decrease was the biggest since the 31st of March and the price went down over the entire week by 3.5 percents.

Gardeners unions die out in South Moravia

Instead of row of carrot and radishes one can see still more often well-cut lawns and swimming baths in gardeners colonies in South Moravia. People want mainly to rest in the garden, not to take care of beds. A number of gardeners in South Moravia significantly decreases year after year. Among others, because people who have belonged to members of gardeners unions for a long time die. And the young are not interested in the union. A number of gardeners significantly decreases in all regions of the district. “Twenty years ago, thirty organization worked with four and half thousands of members in the region. Now we have eighteen organizations some of which completely sleep.”

Farmers from Olomouc region enlarged sugar beet fields last year

Farmers from the region Olomouc enlarged fields with technical sugar beet last year. Nevertheless, they have reduced its acreage since 2004. It results from data of the Czech Statistic Office. According to management of Olomouc Agrarian Chamber (ACH), last year´s year-on-year increase is connected with the fact that growers from the region found a new customer who use sugar beet for bio-spirit production.
