CSO: Meat production and milk buy-out decreased in first quarter

Czech meat production decreased in this year´s first quarter by 3.6 percents to 130 881 tonnes. Production of beef, pig and poultry meat decreased. Milk buy-out decreased by 2.8 percents to 55,2 million liters. It results from today´s data of the Czech Statistic Office. “Number s of slaughtered cattle including calves decreased year-on-yearly by 7.9 percents in the first quarter this year, of it numbers of bulls by six percents, cows by 12,9 percents”, CSO presented. An average slaughter weight of cattle increased by six tenth of percent to 288,4 kilogram.

Medial battle burst out between farmers and milk wrapping producers

A medial battle for customers burst out between farmers and a producer of wrapping for life-long milk Tetra Pak. Farmers dislike that some hygiene experts and doctors warned consumers against consummation of fresh milk from farmer automats at a press conference organized by the company Tetra Pak this week, and they went in medial counterchange. Farmers called own press conference in Prague to next week at which they want with help of doctors, veterinarians and nutrition experts to uproot arguments of the counterparty.

Share of bio-milk in total production is below one percent in CR

According to data of the Ministry of Agriculture, bio-milk was produced on 74 milk organic farms in the Czech Republic in 2009. Over the last year, they produced 26.7 million liters. Bio-milk shared in the total production with 0.86 percents. Almost half, 36 bio-farms, delivered milk in bio-dairy works, 16 in classical dairy works, 15 sold it interested people directly from the farm, and seven produced it for its own consumption. It was heard at today´s press conference devoted to results of research of bio-milk quality. Reasons why bio-milk shares in the total production in so low amount are above all in requirements for its production.

Analysis revealed Listeria in delicate salad

The State Agricultural and Food Inspection forbade production to a firm TOTO – výroba lahůdek s.r.o. from Česká Skalice. Laboratory analysis revealed presence of bacterial Listeria monocytogenes in their product. It was dealt with the product Rumcajs salát (package in plastic pot á 140g, date of expiration 2.5.2010). In total, 30 kilograms of this salad have been produced. The firm was bid immediate withdrawal of the product from all customers, however, regarding the date of expiration consumers can have it still at home. In such cause the Inspection recommends not to eat the product.
