Demand for sauerkraut from Křimice did not decrease against 1989

Sauerkraut from Křimice as one of few agricultural product is sold in the same way as before 1989, moreover with a permanent slight profit. For hundred-year working Zelárna (sauerkraut manufactory) of Jaroslav Lobkowicz in Křimice, one of the biggest manufactory in the country, purchase cabbage-heads from seven farmers from surroundings. Cabbage ferments in larch vats and is trampled out by women in white gumboots, a manager of the production, Otakar Drnka, said to ČTK.

Lesy České republiky cancelled tenders

Lesy České republiky decided on cancellation of contractual proceedings to the public commission named “Implementation of forestry activities with sale of timber at trunk” on the 17th of May, 2010. The enterprise approached to cancellation of tenders because deserving reasons appeared during the contractual proceedings, for which it is not possible to ask the submitter to continue in the contractual proceeding.

Euro: Farms in foreign hand cultivate over 6 percents of Czech land

Farms in foreign hands manage on more than six percents of Czech agricultural land. In total, 378 farms with foreign participation farm on almost 230 000 hectares of almost 3.6 million hectares of agricultural land under cultivation. It was shown in an investigation of the Czech Statistic Office for the daily Euro which informs about the results in its Monday issue. Foreigners obtained the land during seven-year moratorium negotiated by the Czech Republic before joining the European Union. According to it, foreigners can not buy agricultural land and forest inland; the ban will expire on the 1st of May next year.

Numbers of main kinds of farm animals decreased in CR

Numbers of the main kinds of farm animals except sheep, goats and horses decreased against the last year. It results from a list to the 1st of April, 2010, regularly set together by the Czech Statistic Office. The most significant decrease was recorded in poultry, however, also numbers of cattle and pigs, which are bred the least from the World War II, decreased. Numbers of cattle amounted to 1.35 million pieces at the beginning of last month, by one percent less than year ago. Numbers of cow decreased by 1.5 percents to 551 000. Vice versa, number of cows without milk market production increased by 4.6 percents to 167 000 pieces.
